HOW THE MARRIAGE DECEPTION OF THE WIFE'S RIGHT TO CORRECT HER HUSBAND COME TO THE FORE

Feast of Tabernacles 1997, Los Banos, Laguna, the Philippines. I was then the Deacon/Business Manager of the Phildelphia Church of God (PCG) Philippines, which is headquartered in Oklahoma, USA. During this Feast, I was assigned to deliver a sermonette. So, I prepared the subject on the "True Leadership in the Home." In the middle of my delivery of the sermonette, I spoke a sentence with great power and emphasis, "The Wives Should NOT CORRECT their Husbands!"

In the middle of my delivery of the sermonette, I spoke a sentence with great power and emphasis, "The Wives Should NOT CORRECT their Husbands!"

I don't remember now whether that statement was on my notes, or whether it just came to my lips at that very moment. What I remembered was that I felt a strong force that compelled me to speak those very words! To my surprise, I heard a loud "roar" from the audience. I was stupefied for a few seconds with this unexpected reaction. Then I sensed that this was a roar of protest and disagreement from the audience who did not expect, and did not like what they just heard! As I went down the stage going back to my seat, my mind was asking in wonder, "Did I offend the brethren?"

A "PERFECT" SERMONETTE

During the announcement portion of the service, Mr. Arlene Berkey, one of the two Philadelphia Church of God (PCG) guest Ministers sent to the Philippines, gave positive comments about my sermonette and he even said that it was a "perfect" sermonette. Mr. Berkey's comments were also unexpected and it was my first time to hear that there is such a thing as a perfect sermonette! Nevertheless, it helped to alleviate my anxiety.

The main sermon on that day was assigned to Mr. Joe Avila, an Australian, who is the other international guest Minister. Before he gave his sermon, he also gave positive comments about my sermonette, and he even integrated it to his sermon. Throughout his sermon, he occasionally mentioned my name and the sermonette as he tried to connect it to his message. By now, I felt vindicated for any false impression that may have been caused by my controversial statement. I also sensed that God backed up my sermonette via these two international Ministers that were sent to the Philippines from the USA and Australia!

A BURIED CONTROVERSY IN THE CHURCH WAS UNEARTHED!

After the Church service, several brethren came to me for varied reasons, concerning the controversial statement I mentioned in my sermonette.
  1. Some asked questions for more clarifications about that statement.
  2. Others voiced out their complaints and disagreements.
  3. Others just came to listen to the open forum.
  4. Some also came to congratulate me and show their support and agreement.
It seems that, unknowingly, I hit something sensitive, serious, and controversial subject in the Church of God. A major Marriage issue (or sin?) hidden deep in the psyche and culture of the Church of God was unearthed!

I asked myself: Is this by accident, unintentional, or by the hand of God? Did God put that controversial statement in my mouth to uncover a deeply entrenched wickedness in His Church -- the supposed Bride-to-be of Christ who had been unaware of it for decades, even for centuries?

I now realized that this event is a critical milestone in the history of the Churches of God, and even in the world! Where will this milestone lead to?

The audience of that controversial sermonette was composed of all the PCG Ministers (Pastors) and Church members in the Philippines and the visiting PCG Ministers and members from several other countries.

SHOULD THE WIFE CORRECT HER HUSBAND?
A SURPRISING SURVEY RESULT!

It was truly amazing to see the unexpected results of that sermonette! To get some more feel of the prevailing attitude in the Church, I approached many wives and their husbands to have some kind of survey. I posed the controversial statement in the questionnaire format, "Should the wife correct her husband?"

To my surprise, almost all the wives answered, "YES!" To my greater surprise, some of the husbands also answered, "YES!" Unbelievable!

The controversy and confusion of the subject I unintentionally unearthed were shown in the concern and reaction of the audience. Some of the brethren went to the local ministry to ask for explanation on that controversial statement. The Ministry declined to give an answer and suggested to those brethren to ask me directly. These  reactions demonstrated that the Church does not know the subject of marriage. A local Church Elder suggested to me that maybe I should explain that in another sermonette. But later, he retracted that suggestion and instead prohibited me from speaking further about marriage!

DOES THE CHURCH REALLY READY TO BECOME THE BRIDE OF CHRIST?

Even after the Feast of Tabernacles, the controversy would not stop! It continued to be the "talk of the town." I never expect that such a sermonette would create such a stir!
  • Has the Bride made herself READY (Revelation 19:7)?
With the above confusion and wrong understanding of the word "correct," as applied to the Husband-Wife relationship, the resounding answer is: The Church is absolutely NOT yet ready to marry Christ!

Before the Church or The BRIDE OF CHRIST can be considered READY for the coming Marriage of the Lamb (Revelation 19:7), she must first have a clear and Godly understanding of this very vital subject of Marriage.

Only those Christians and Jews who have the proper understanding of the Great Mystery of Marriage relationship (and practiced them in their lives), will become part of genuine BRIDE OF CHRIST -- whom Christ will marry at His return! Christ will never marry a Christian, Jew, or Church that have the belief and tendency to correct Him!
